Why Support All for recovery?
A study published in 2014 by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association, a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, reported the following:
In 2013, 22.7 million persons (aged 12 or older) needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol use problem (8.6% of all U.S. persons aged 12 or older).
Of these 22.7 million persons, only 2.5 million (roughly 11%) received treatment at a specialty facility.
Thus, 20.2 million persons (7.7% of the U.S. population aged 12 or older) needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol use problem but did not receive treatment at a specialty facility in the past year.
Of the 20.2 million persons who were classified as needing treatment but did not receive treatment at a specialty facility in the past year, only 908,000 persons (4.5%) reported that they felt they needed treatment for their illicit drug or alcohol use problem.
Of these 908,000 persons who felt they needed treatment, just 316,000 reported that they made an effort to get treatment.
The most commonly reported reason (37.3%) for not receiving treatment among this group of persons was a lack of insurance coverage and inability to afford the cost.
These statistics are devastating and, sadly, not enough is being done to address the issue. The data shows having insufficient financial resources is the most common obstacle keeping hundreds of thousands of people from accessing the addiction treatment they need. All For Recovery intends to do its part to change this narrative. Donate today to join us in our fight.
Become a monthly donor.
Your donation will provide those without insurance or the financial means the opportunity to attend a 9-month treatment program and/or cover their first month's rent in a specialized recovery housing setting. The cost for a 30-day treatment program can often run upwards of $30,000. Thanks to the generous help and support of our partners, we are able to provide scholarships that cover the full cost of a 9-month treatment program for less than $21,000 (you can find the breakdown of the 9-month treatment program below). Recovery housing allows those who have lost their jobs the opportunity to live in a secure environment with a house manager and others also in recovery. The monthly cost for recovery housing can range from $500-$700 per month.
Your monthly donation will help AFR’s efforts to connect those seeking help with proper treatment and/or recovery housing and ultimately the opportunity to be in an environment that allows for a successful transition into the community.
